Bidge Boyd

"Bidge" whose proper name is Ian Boyd has been playing country music since about 1988.

Having previously played in rock bands and country/rock bands and trios and the TOP-SECRET Duo during the 70's and 80's. He was a founding member of the "BACKTRACKERS" band which played throughout the western district of Victoria. The band backed Qld. singer/yodeller Laura Downing for a few years whenever she appeared in Victoria.

There are many fond memories of that band and it's unique sound featuring 4 part harmonies and also a trumpet. Bidge toured Tasmania and New Zealand with Laura Downing and played at festivals in every state of Australia except Northern Territory.

Bidge was also invited to perform at the Bay of Islands festival in New Zealand in 2007, as well as festivals at Port Pirie, SA, Horsham and St Arnaud, Vic. and the Barham Stampede. Bidge performs at several country music clubs throughout western Victoria including Ballarat CMAV, Beaufort and Warrnambool. He has a regular spot at "Kickback Country" (The best venue in Victoria)with his wife Barb as TOP-SECRET Duo.

Some of his favorite Australian artists are; Troy Cassar-Daly, Alby Pool, Graeme Connors, Stuie French, Brad Bergen, Dave Prior, Lee Forster and female artists Sandra Humphries, Camille Te Nahu, Lyn Bowtell, The McClymonts,Amber Lawrence, Brianna Lee and Laura Downing. In 2006 Bidge recorded his debut CD, Every Second, Every Minute at Stuie French's SWINGIN' DOOR Studio in Sydney. The CD featured the great talents of Stuie French - Guitars, Michel Rose - Pedal steel, Ian Lees - Bass, Mick Albeck - Fiddle, Brad Bergen - Drums and Camille Te Nahu - Duet and backing vocals. The CD got a favorable review in Capital News. It included an original song called "A Weerite Student" written for a school reunion in 1988. In late 2008 Bidge recorded his 2nd CD titled "Among the Lakes and Craters" with the title song explaining the changes Bidge has seen in his lifetime at Weerite, in Western Victoria where he and his wife Barb run beef cattle.
